Geraint Thomas’s goal of starting cycling competition seasons in 2023 was derailed due to an infection the athlete had at the end of last year. Due to the absence of some training and the use of antibiotics, the Welshman preferred to dedicate himself to the Australia World Tour and, therefore, was left out of the Tour Down Under.

“Just before Christmas I had a small infection. I thought I was over it, but it came back a little. I took antibiotics and missed a few days of training. It sucks when it’s nice and sunny in Australia and you’re sitting indoors.”

When talking about the year 2023, Geraint Thomas expressed his excitement for the coming seasons “with the team we have, I’m super excited to race with them. We have three potential winners or drivers that could be there in Ethan [Hayter], Magnus [Sheffield] and Plappy [Luke Plapp]. We are looking forward to it”.
