The data review will be implemented for this year and are part of a new institution policy. In this way, transgender women and men, non-binary individuals could be included in the sport and compete in the “open” category. The likelihood is that the UCI will also modify the rules and apply them to the new groups.

“In competitive politics, fairness is absolutely the determining factor. We take due care, time and attention to ensure that we have legal advice and that we are in line with UK law. We can’t predict what’s going to happen, but today is about leadership and giving absolute certainty and direction to remove uncertainty,” explained British Cycling chairman Jon Button.
