FIFA announces suspension of Luis Rubiales

Last Monday (28), through a statement on official networks, FIFA announced that the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, will be suspended from his duties for 90 days due to his improper conduct. with Spain’s soccer player, Jennifer Hermoso, while handing over her winning trophy.

The decision was applied by the president of the FIFA Disciplinary Commission, Jorge Ivan Palácio, through article 51 of the Institution’s Disciplinary Code. In this way, the former coach will be absent from all his functions until the period applied, while the disciplinary process is investigated.

The measure aims to “preserve, among other factors, the fundamental rights of the player of the national soccer team and the good order of the disciplinary process in progress before the disciplinary body”. In addition to the announcement, the Superior Sports Council of Spain asked for a second precautionary suspension against Luis Rubiales in the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) alleging abuse of authority.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Commission will not provide further information on this disciplinary process until a final decision has been taken. FIFA reiterates its absolute commitment to respecting the integrity of all people and vehemently condemns any behavior contrary to this”, said the institution’s statement on the situation.

The situation that happened last Sunday (20), during the delivery of medals, generated protests and negative demonstrations about the behavior of Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), in which he unexpectedly kissed the player Jenni Hermoso.
