Carlos Sainz has his $500k watch stolen and chases thieves for hours right after Italian Grand Prix

Yesterday (09/03), hours after taking third place in the Italian Grand Prix, driver Carlos Sainz was the victim of an attempted robbery.

According to the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica”, the driver had just returned to Milan to the Armani hotel when two men approached him and forcibly took his watch, which cost around $500,000. It was then that Sainz, his team and several people nearby chased the thieves and recovered the watch. The police soon arrived and arrested the two men.

Today (09/04), Sainz used his Instagram account to say that everything was fine and that it was just an “unpleasant anecdote”. He also thanked the people who helped recover the watch, the police and the messages of support from fans.

This wasn’t the first time a Formula 1 driver had been robbed. Lando Norris was mugged after the Euro 2020 final when he was walking to his car outside Wembley and two men tried to steal his watch.

Also Charles Leclerc, last year was the victim of a robbery in Italy, when he stopped to take photos with fans and a crowd was formed, a thief took the opportunity to grab his watch. Leclerc also chased the robber.
