“I thought I would make this shirt eventually if I had a chance to win the tournament. Kobe was a close friend, we talked a lot about the winning mentality when I was battling an injury and trying to come back, to get back to the top of my game,” said Novak Djokovic.
The tennis player continued: “What happened a few years ago, the death of him and his daughter, hurt me deeply. I thought of 24 since it’s the jersey he wore when he became a Lakers and world basketball legend, so I thought it could be a cool and symbolic thing to recognize him for all the things he’s done.”
With an impressive trajectory, his latest victories and return to the courts after two years of refusing to receive the vaccine against Covid-19, the athlete tied with Margaret Court for the record for the most Grand Slam numbers of all time, surpassing even Serena Williams.
