“I suffered more from stomach bacteria than I realized at the time. It doesn’t bother me anymore, but it did the first week. I had no more strength. After what I went through, I’m happy that I’m still in the game”, said the athlete who now remains in third place in the general classification.

Jonas Vingegaard joked about the event by making an analogy to what happened with athlete Tom Dumoulin, who in the third stage of the Giro D’Italia in 2017, had to stop to go to the bathroom outdoors due to major stomach problems. At the time, the development of the story caught the attention of the media.
“I made a Dumoulin’. It wasn’t the proudest moment of my career. It only happened once. And luckily it was a peaceful stage the next day. If that hadn’t happened, I could have fallen in the general classification”, said Jonas Vingegaard about stomach pains.
For the next stages, the Jumbo-Visma team led by the cyclist, Sepp Kuss and Primoz Roglic need to continue focusing on securing the top positions in the general classification of the Vuelta a Espana.
