On August 30 Woodland had already revealed in his social media accounts about the diagnosis, writing that the tumor was discovered a few months prior. He said that they attempted to treat the symptoms with medication, but after talking to his family and specialists, they decided that surgery was the best course of action.

His last competitive appearance was in early August, at North Carolina’s Wyndham Championship. Woodland is a four-time winner on the PGA tour. He won the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California, beating Brooks Koepka by three shots. That was his first major title.
