Red Bull just needed four points to conquer the constructors’ title, with Verstappen’s victory they got 25.
This was Verstappen’s 13th victory of the year, and now he is likely to win the driver’s title in the sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix. He has 400 points, a 26-point lead over his teammate Sérgio Perez, who has 223 points. Verstappen just needs three more points to secure his third title in a row.
Perez’s race was a very different one from his teammate, as he suffered front-wing damage on the first lap, earned a penalty for overtaking under caution and broke his front-wing again after trying to overtake Kevin Magnussen. His car was very damaged so they had to retire.
He pulled to the pits to retire, and after sitting around for a long time, he rejoined the race to serve the penalty he had received. After that he retired for good.
