Primoz Roglic announces departure from Jumbo-Visma

Last Saturday (30), through a statement on social media and during a press conference at the start of the Giro dell’Emilia, Primoz Roglic announced that he will leave Jumbo-Visma. However, until the end of the season, with the next competition, the cyclist still competes for the team.

“I can confirm for sure that I will leave the team, but we want to tell you all the details of where I will go after the races. So yes, I’m here to run first. I will be focused here and then we will make the next moves”, said the athlete in the statement, without revealing any further details.

Shortly after finishing the race, Jumbo-Visma coach Richard Plugge confirmed the cyclist’s decision and considered his change. Having been on the team since 2016, when he transferred from skiing to cycling, Primoz Roglic has always demonstrated excellent performance, having a lot of repercussions for his victories in matches.

“Primoz will always be in my heart as our king. We are very grateful to him for finding a way to the top together. I will always admire him on a personal level. But there comes a time when it’s better to part. He recently requested a transfer. We understand his request and we have too much respect for each other to stand in each other’s way. We gave him the green light, just like we did with Dylan Groenewegen,” said Jumbo-Visma coach Richard Plugge.

Rumors of Primoz Roglic’s departure began when there was speculation that a merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal-QuickStep was possible, however, until then, nothing had been confirmed. Previously, news stated that Ineos Grenadiers and Lidl-Trek are the teams that have shown the most interest in the cyclist.
