QuickStep sponsor takes a stance on merger rumors with Jumbo-Visma

Last Sunday (01), according to the news portal Het Laatste Nieuws, the Belgian sealant and adhesive company, Soudal, stated that it is interested in the merger between QuickStep and Jumbo-Visma being carried out and that, if it happens, will continue as the team’s title sponsors.

“Their sponsorship is our strength. This provides a return on investment. Our marketing strategy is focused on this and, until further notice, there is no reason to deviate from it. We made a contractual commitment at the time as enthusiastic sponsors and it is our ambition to continue that way,” said Marko Heijl, manager of sponsorship and corporate communications at Soudal.

With continued support, the possible investment of 15 million euros from Amazon Prime in Jumbo-Visma and the confirmation of the Specialized brand on bicycles, the combination between the two teams would make a great effort to remain at the top of the competitions.

Recently, the head of Soudal-QuickStep, Patrick Lefevere, announced that new news about the merger would soon be ready to be released. Last week, the same vehicle had published that the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) had been notified of the possible merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal-QuickStep, and that conversations had taken place with the teams.

However, even though the merger appears to be progressing, there are obstacles for the super team to obtain a WorldTour license as authorizations are allowed for more than two years for just one company.
