The Dutchman didn’t have it all his own way during the stage, having suffered two punctures, including one at just 40km from the line. “I said immediately that the whole team had to wait. The team performance was really strong today and we’re really happy that we could take the first win of the season”, he said.

Stage 2: 184km to Shalal Sijlyat Rocks.
Stage 3, spanning 159.2 km, will depart from Al Manshiyah Railway Station, a major stop on the legendary Hejaz Railway, a 1,300 km single-track line stretching from Damascus to Medina.
Stage 4 starts in Maraya and heads towards Harrat Uwayrid.
Stage 5: The final stage starts in the old town of AlUla and goes to Hegra, a UNESCO world heritage site.
