According to reports in the news, the CEO of Jumbo-Visma, Richard Plugge, had contacted and met the president of the UCI, David Lappartient, recently to detail the super team’s plans and that both had scheduled a second meeting attended by members of Soudal-QuickStep.

In addition to the meeting between team members, representatives from Specialized, the company that sponsors Soudal-QuickStep bicycles, also met professionals from Jumbo-Visma. Even though they were questioned about the changes, the team managers did not comment on the speculation.

However, even though the merger appears to be progressing, there are obstacles for the super team to obtain a WorldTour license as authorizations are allowed for more than two years for just one company. Even if there is an opportunity for a merger, one possibility would be to purchase the company that has the permission.

Due to speculation about the merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal-QuickStep, the teams from ProTeams, Lotto-Dstny, Israel-Premier Tech, Uno-X and Q36.5 were interested in purchasing the license acquired by the Belgian team, opening up a greater opportunity in professional sport.
