Sharapova says she had to have dinner with Djokovic after losing bet

In an interview for the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, Maria Sharapova, former number 1 in the world, shared an unusual story in which she had to pay a bet to Serbian Novak Djokovic and enjoyed some very fun moments alongside the then number 1 in the world.

“It was a funny situation with Novak. I remember we had just won our first Grand Slams, it was when he was rising to the top and his performance wasn’t at its peak… We did a little performance in Indian Wells. I don’t remember what the bet, but he said if he won, we’d go to dinner. I was like, ‘Okay, whatever, like that’s actually going to happen.’

So he ended up winning and he said, ‘Yes, let’s have dinner…’ and it was really funny. He said, ‘Can we take a picture?'” the former tennis player shared, as quoted by The Tennis Letter.

When asked if she imagined Djokovic would become the best player of all time, given that they were from the same generation, both born in 1987, Sharapova expressed her admiration for her fellow athlete’s impressive preparation and dedication.
