Dutch driver Max Verstappen achieved his third consecutive title as Formula 1 world champion at the age of 26, during the Qatar Grand Prix sprint race, held this Saturday (7) at the Lusail circuit. “It’s a fantastic feeling, I’m immensely proud of the team’s performance, and it’s a great happiness to be part of this group. Being world champion is an incredible experience”, declared the Red Bull driver.

Verstappen needed just three points to secure the title, but saw confirmation when his teammate, Mexican Sergio Pérez, abandoned the race after an accident with Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine).

At the time of Pérez’s incident, Verstappen was in third place in the race. However, it was not necessary to wait for the end of the race to guarantee victory. He crossed the finish line in second place, behind Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren). “I witnessed accident, but I was focused on the objective of winning the race, so I wasn’t thinking about the title. Unfortunately, we weren’t very lucky today with all these Safety Car periods,” he explained.
Verstappen’s third title, awaited a few weeks ago, crowns an almost flawless season, with the driver achieving 13 victories in 16 stages contested so far, including an impressive sequence of ten consecutive victories.
