This Sunday (12), Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs made history by beating the San Francisco 49ers 25 to 22, in overtime, in Super Bowl LVIII, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and thus becoming two-time Super Bowl champions.

Also champions in 2022-23, the Chiefs join just six franchises that have managed to win the NFL’s big decision consecutively, something that has not been done since 2003-04 and 2004-05, by the New England Patriots. It is Kansas City’s third title in the last five years and fourth Super Bowl in club history.
On the other side, there was a team that represented one of the great dynasties in the history of the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers, four-time champions in the 1980s. And the Niners sold their defeat dearly: they reached 1min53s before the end with the advantage by 19 to 16.
But the Chiefs tied it with a field goal in the final seconds and forced the second overtime in Super Bowl history. In overtime, San Francisco was again ahead 22-19, but Kansas City turned the score around once again, thanks to a masterful campaign by Patrick Mahomes.
With that, the big name in the NFL today had a hard time against one of the best defenses in the league. Patrick Mahomes was under a lot of pressure, being sacked three times and intercepted once.
But the comeback quarterback once again brought his team back from a 10-point deficit in a Super Bowl, as he did against San Francisco itself in 2020 and against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
He finished with 333 passing yards, 66 rushing yards and two touchdown passes, and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). He equaled Niners idol Joe Montana with three titles and three Super Bowl MVPs.
Furthermore, another center of attention in the game was tight end Travis Kelce. Mahomes’ main weapon, number 87 was in the spotlight not only for his high level, but also for his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift, who was present at the stadium.
After a lackluster first half, in which he even scolded coach Andy Reid, Kelce appeared in the second half and was an important part of the victory, with nine receptions for 93 yards.
