International Olympic Committee approves inclusion of five sports for the 2028 Olympics

The International Olympic Committee announced this Friday (13), in a press conference, that five new sports will be present at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.

++ Rumors indicate that the merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal-QuickStep will not occur

With this, Flag football and squash will be in the Olympics for the first time, while lacrosse and cricket will return after more than a hundred years of absence, and baseball/softball will return after being absent in 2024.

Flag Ball is the big news, as it is a sport with very little publicity in the world. Namely, it is a type of American football in which, instead of taking down his opponent with tackles, the athlete has to remove a tape placed on his rival’s clothing.

Squash has been trying to get into the program for at least 20 years and now it has finally come to fruition. Lacrosse is a very popular sport in US universities and will have a reduced version for the Olympics, with just six players on each side, compared to ten in the traditional sport.

Another sport that had a small change to adapt to the Olympic program was cricket, which will be held in the smaller version, called twenty.

The two have already been to the Olympics, at the beginning of the last century, more than a hundred years ago. Finally, baseball, which has its female version called softball, is back on the program after leaving for Paris 2024.
