Last Thursday (15), through a statement from the Bahrain Victorious team, during the fifth stage of the Tour de Suisse, which takes place between the 11th and 20th of this month, Gino Mader suffered an accident in a ravine, heading towards to La Punt, on the way down to the finish line. Due to the hard crash, the cyclist was found unconscious, did not resist and died.

“Despite the best efforts of the phenomenal team at Chur Hospital, Gino was unable to overcome this, his last and greatest challenge, and at 11:30am we said goodbye to one of the brightest lights of our team,” Bahrain Victorious said in a statement following the cyclist’s accident.

The team and close friends were surprised by the news and paid tribute to the athlete. “We are devastated by the loss of our exceptional cyclist, Gino Mader. His talent, dedication and enthusiasm were an inspiration to all of us. Not only was he an extremely talented cyclist, he was a great person off the bike. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time,” said Millan Erzen, head of Bahrain Victorious.
