Reports: New Mexico basketball team suspended for remainder of 2022-23 season

In the face of numerous allegations of harassment and accusations of sexual contact, New Mexico State Chancellor Dan Arvizu has officially and indefinitely suspended the New Mexico State University (NMSU) basketball program from participating in the 2022 season. -23.

“This action is clearly needed, especially after receiving additional facts and reviewing investigative reports relating to allegations of hazing involving team student athletes,” Arvizu said in a statement.

According to reports, campus police said three members of the team were charged with harassment and criminal se*xual contact. In the process, it was also reported that there were touches by his teammates inside the locker room and that the situation was not prevented by anyone. The complaint took place in the middle of last year.

The Western Athletic Conference association shared a statement in support of Dan Arvizu’s decision: “Over the past 48 hours, our staff and members have been working to find a solution that best protects all WAC student-athletes and institutions. We fully support New Mexico State’s decision to suspend the remainder of the season as they take this time to focus on the health and safety of their student-athletes”.
