Lionel Messi could become Major League Soccer’s richest player

According to a report in The Sunday Times, Lionel Messi would be about to sign a new contract with Inter Miami in which he would have about 35% of the club’s rights and thus become the highest paid player in Major League Soccer. The pre-contract would be signed after the 2022 World Cup, which takes place in Qatar.

Speculation that the Argentine would change teams has been happening since 2020, but until then, nothing had been confirmed. Suspicions began to surface due to rumors that Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, a player from Uruguay, wanted to move to Miami.

David Beckham, who is one of the partners of Inter Miami, had wanted to sign the Argentine player since 2018. The club has been designing an environment to make it possible for the star to join the team, so much so that last season the group hired professionals who already worked in Barcelona.
