Lionel Messi named FIFA’s best player

Last Monday (27), in Paris, during the Best FIFA Awards event, Lionel Messi overthrew Kylian Mbappé and was elected the best FIFA male player for the second time. Voting for the title was carried out by captains, national team coaches, journalists and also, online, by fans.

“It’s been a tremendous year and it’s an honor for me to be here and win this award. Without my teammates I wouldn’t be here. I fulfilled a dream that I had been waiting for so long, few people achieve this, and I was lucky to achieve this”, said Lionel Messi upon receiving the award.

At the end of last year, as a tribute, the Argentine had received the Golden Ball award, which honors the best player in the World Cup. Mbappé, who finished second in the same FIFA category, won the Golden Boot as top scorer at the World Cup.
