Due to the war in Ukraine, athletes from Russia and Belarus were suffering from a ban on playing in the competition at Wimbledon, which will take place in July. The decision was taken to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), after a complaint from the All England Club, which expressed itself in favor of tennis players from the regions to be in the next professional matches.

However, the decision determined some rules for the athletes to be allowed to return to the field, such as not being financed by “Russian and/or Belarusian states (including sponsorship of state-operated or state-controlled companies) in relation to their participation in the championship”, in addition to being present as neutral players.

“We also consider that alignment between Grand Slams is increasingly important in today’s tennis environment.
