During the next weekend, between the 19th and 21st, in northern Italy, the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna was scheduled to take place, however, due to the drastic floods on Wednesday (17) , Formula 1 decided to cancel the race.
As justification, the company claims that the decision was for reasons related to security. “It is a tragedy to see what has happened to Imola and Emilia-Romagna, the city and region I grew up in and my thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of the floods and affected communities,” said Stefano Domenicali, president of Formula 1.
Since the beginning of the week, thousands of families have been suffering from the floods, as well as the lack of electricity and telephony. Italy’s infrastructure minister, Matteo Salvini, said authorities were aware of the case and were helping the population.
