Lead: Remco Evenepoel overtakes Jonas Vingegaard to win third stage of Vuelta a Espana

Last Monday (28), during the Vuelta a Espana, Remco Evenepoel overtook Jonas Vingegaard and crossed the finish line winning the third stage of the competition. After winning, the cyclist takes the lead in the matches and prepares to face opponents in the next stages.

The chances of the cyclist occupying the first place on the podium almost did not exist, since hours before, in the region of Arinsal – Aldeia in Andorra, Remco Evenepoel suffered a collision with the area where part of the public and photographers were positioned. As the cyclist was not injured, he was able to resume the third stage and secure his prize.

After finishing the test that affirmed his leadership, in a press conference, the athlete complained about the structure of the test in the face of the accident that occurred. The cyclist also reported that in the last stages the participants had to negotiate with the roads open due to safety issues.

“It was just 50 meters after the finish line, and it’s the third day in a row and I’m a little confused now. I feel really good on the final climb with a long and very strong sprint, so I’m super happy with this win. it’s a good win here in Andorra at high altitude. It shows that my preparation was good and I’m ready for the next three weeks”, said Remco Evenepoel.

In the second and third position on the podium of the third phase of the Vuelta a Espanã were Jonas Vingegaard, from Jumbo-Visma, and Juan Ayuso, UAE – Team Emirates. In the general classification of the competition, the first places are with Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), Enric Mas (Movistar) and Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ).
