Police responded to a 911 call reporting an assault at 6:45 a.m. and arrested Porter, 23, following an investigation. Both charges are felonies. He is now in custody at the NYPD’s 17th precinct in Manhattan, United States.

“Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 26-year-old woman had suffered a laceration to the right side of her face and was complaining of neck pain,” the spokesperson said. “A preliminary investigation at the scene determined that an identified individual struck her multiple times on the body and placed his hands around her neck.”

The woman was transported to the hospital for evaluation, the police spokesperson said. “We are in the process of gathering information regarding the matter involving Kevin Porter Jr.,” the Rockets said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”

The NBA also acknowledged Porter Jr.’s arrest, saying in a statement through spokesman Mike Bass: “The league office is in contact with the Houston Rockets and is in the process of gathering more information.”

Kevin Porter Jr was drafted in 2019 by the Milwaukee Bucks, but was soon traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was also arrested in 2020 when he was caught with improper possession of a firearm and drugs in a motor vehicle.
