Last Wednesday (13), in an interview with the newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, George Russell discussed future projects in Formula 1, explained how honored he is to have renewed his contract with Mercedes and to have as a companion of Lewis Hamilton team.

The driver states that the next season of the competition will be a great way to honor his name alongside the company: “I always hoped to be the best teammate, because I believe in myself. I want to show what I can do. If you want to be champion, you need to be able to compete with anyone. For me, it is an extraordinary opportunity to compete against the greatest of all time in the same car. Working with him will make me a better driver”.

In recent competitions, George Russell was hampered due to the strategy and safety of his car and therefore remained 55 points behind Lewis Hamilton. However, now the driver explains that this season he feels confident to change his position.
“The aim is to win a race and finish second in the constructors’ championship. If I can catch up to both and then finish behind Lewis, that’s not a problem. Nobody remembers who finishes second among the drivers”, said George Russell in the interview.
In a Formula 1 press conference, Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes, said that the decision to keep the drivers was not at all difficult and that he considers the duo’s presence as one of the strongest in the competition, as they have always played important roles in the team.
