UEFA chooses UK and Ireland as hosts for Euro 2028

UEFA has defined the venues for the Eurocup after 2024. Thus, the entity announced this Tuesday (10), that Ireland and the United Kingdom, with games in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales – will host the edition of 2028.

Furthermore, it was decided that Turkey and Italy will host the tournament in 2032. With this, uefa indicates a trend towards joint venues for its tournaments.

Namely, Euro 2024 will be held in Germany, after the 2020 edition, commemorating 60 years of the competition, is spread across the continent. In 2008, Austria and Switzerland hosted the European Championship, and in 2012, Poland and Ukraine.

Euro 2028 has already had further details confirmed by UEFA. Thus, it was announced that England will be the main country for the joint headquarters, with five cities hosting matches throughout the competition: Birmingham, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Newcastle. Belfast will host the games in Northern Ireland; Glasgow, Scotland; Cardiff, Wales; and Dublin, Ireland.

The host cities for Euro 2032 have not yet been defined. But, according to UEFA, Italy and Turkey presented 20 potential stages for games, and 10 stadiums will be chosen in October 2026, being five per country.

With the choice of the United Kingdom and Ireland to host the 2028 edition, the European Championship may once again have a final held at the legendary Wembley Stadium. In 2021, the last edition was defined in London, with England losing the title at home to Italy on penalties.
