“It’s no secret that the Tour de France is Mark’s biggest goal for next year. All that counts is the victory, or victories, in the Tour de France stage of next year’s race. So I want to make sure he gets there in the best possible condition, in physical condition,” shared Vasilis Anastopoulos, new head of performance at Astana Qazaqstan.

In addition to taking on a new position in the team, the Greek will have more precision and will focus on the individual work of some cyclists in the same way that the coach worked at Soudal-QuickStep, his last job. “It’s a new challenge for me. I am very excited because my role is to ensure that each driver performs as well as possible and has the best possible preparation for each of the races we do with the team. I think I will have eight to ten pilots that I will train personally”, said the former athlete.
Previously, Mark Cavendish would have met with the former sporting director of Soudal-QuickStep, Vasilis Anastopoulos, so that they could define the routes for his final season, in 2024.
