The Boston Celtics are gradually proving to be the big favorites for the NBA title in the 2023/24 season. The team led by Jayson Tatum became the first to guarantee a spot in the playoffs by beating the Phoenix Suns, last Thursday, 127-112 playing at home, at TD Garden.

With a campaign of 52 wins and 14 losses (78.8% success rate, the best among the 30 teams in the league), the Celtics have, in their home matches, an impressive record: 30 wins and only three defeats ( 90%).

As a result, led by Jaylen Brown, who scored 37 points, followed by Jayson Tatum, with 26, and Al Horford, with 24, the Celtics did not feel the absence of center Kristaps Porzingis for the fourth straight game due to injury and imposed themselves on the Suns.

Who even with four players reaching the 20-point mark (Kevin Durant (20), Grayson Allen (20), Bradley Beal (22) and Devin Booker (23)), were unable to overcome the home team’s efficiency in three-pointers – 25 hits in 50 attempts. The Arizona team had “only” 11 hits in 31 attempts.

However, if on the one hand, the Celtics secured their place in the playoffs, on the other side of the table, the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs are mathematically eliminated from the final stage of the season. The two teams, which are the bottom of the Eastern and Western conferences, respectively, no longer have a chance of winning a place in the season’s elite.
