After four days of the Tour du Rwanda, Chris Froome had been a quiet presence in the peloton. This Thursday (23) he lied 21st overall as he continues the early-season preparation for goals later on in the year.

However, that all changed on stage 5, a hilly 195km run from Rusizi to Rubavu featuring six major climbs. The four-time Tour de France winner, who kicked off his season in Australia last month, sprang into action partway through the stage, making the break of the day.

The two-times Olympic medalist said on Instagram âWell, that was an eventful day. It was all going well until an untimely punture, two wheel changes, and a crashâ, said Froome. The cyclist understood that incidents can happen during races and an accident wonât stop him. Froome said that feels ready for the next one.
