Rivalry between Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan returns to the spotlight

The players, even after years of confrontation that generated discomfort, still remain without understanding

During the interview with Cosmote Tv in Greece, in which he holds the rights to broadcast the NBA in the country, Isiah Thomas made some comments about Michael Jordan when recalling the documentary “The Last Dance”, produced by ESPN, in 2020, which addresses the conflict between the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons in the 1990s.

The former player reports that as much as years of disputes and rivalries with Michael Jordan have passed, he will only redeem himself when an apology occurs. “And then I start watching a whole documentary about him being an idiot. I’m like, wait a minute, time out. Until I get a public apology, this beef is going to go on for a long, long time because I’m from the west side of Chicago,” said Isiah Thomas.

The reason for the fight to last is due to a match that took place between the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals in 1991. In it, the Michigan team beat Illinois, and they left the court without greeting the opposing team. With that, Michael Jordan considered the action as a sign of disrespect, leading the star to criticize Isiah Thomas at several important events such as the 2009 Hall of Fame.

The Detroit Pistons player, recalling the scene, counters by saying, “Knowing what we know now and the consequences of what happened, I think we would all have stopped and said, ‘Hey, congratulations,’ like they do now.”

Michael Jordan, upon learning of his opponent’s speech, declared that “whatever he says now, you know they were not his true actions at the time. He has enough time to think about it. Or the audience reaction kind of changed his perspective. You can show me whatever you want, there’s no convincing me he wasn’t an idiot.”
