Last Wednesday (30), in Venice, according to local sources, Davide Rebellin was hit by a truck near his home while cycling on the highway near his home. The collision was so great that the former medalist could not resist and died.
++ Short Track (XCC) could be added as a new Olympic sport in the coming years
Rebellin, who retired from professional cycling in 2021, has an impressive record including victories in the Ardennes Classics de Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Fleche Wallone and Amstel Gold competitions. In addition, he won the traditional Giro d’Italia race and three editions of the Freccia Vallone.
Friends and former co-workers were shocked to hear the news of his passing. John Lelangue, general manager of Lotto-Soudal, could not admit that the accident had happened, “I just can’t believe it. He was with us Sunday night at the Monte Carlo Criterium dinner.”
