Last week, the director of the UCI, Peter Van den Abeel, informed that the Road Champions League will undergo some changes, as well as the World Tour for 2026. As justification, the agreement signed last year aims to change the balance of power within cycling, creating a new one to promote the races and even shorten the Tour de France.

The intention of the new agreement is also to create a new kind of competition that would be called the UCI Champions League, with the UCI Track Champions League format organized by Discovery Sports Events. UCI President David Lappartient commented on what the new championship would look like: “The idea is to strengthen the attractiveness of our sport so that we can market it even better, publicize it even better and even run races where we don’t currently have it, in new areasâ.
