“The Tour de France is what has always defined my career and from the outside I am well aware of what people are going to say. We’re at that point where I can be alone. Another Tour win is everything to people, but for me it’s not one win, it’s two or three, whatever I can do,” said Mark Cavendish.

During the chat, The Times disclosed that Netflix is producing the new documentary that reports on the cyclist’s life, from his early career to the present day. The work will also portray the challenges that the athlete faced with the Epstein Barr virus and the depression he contracted between the years 2017 to 2020 that made it impossible to compete in new races.

Cavendish recalled the times he was active on other teams and how much it took a toll on him emotionally: “First, the Dimension Data years, when it was the team’s fault that I was sick, but I was thrown under the bus for it. That hurt. Bahrain, even Quick-Step, I couldn’t prepare myself, set a goal. This is the first time I can set a goal and work towards it, rather than feeling like I have to prove myself just for the opportunity”.
