The Belgian was in charge of revolutionizing the United Arab Emirates Circuit in the first disputed stage in which his team won with Tim Merlier. The World champion managed, together with the Spaniard Pello Bilbao, to lead by almost a minute over their main rivals in the general classification.

Evenepoel, is the protagonist of the attacks that several times broke the peloton. Above all, he claimed victory at Al Mirfa, in the definitive breakout of 12 riders, and drew very positive conclusions in view of the remaining days. “We won the stage and I took a lot of time from some riders who are direct rivals, so the confidence is very high after this intense day of racing,” added Evenepoel, sixth overall ahead of Tuesday’s team time trial.
