“I think I had one of my best days. I felt really strong and tried to make some initial attacks, but it was difficult. At Carrefour de l’Arbre, after Degenkolb’s crash and Van Aert’s flat tire, I found myself alone in the lead and rode as hard as I could to the finish line”, said the great winner of the competition.

Since last year, the Dutchman has been breaking records in his latest competitions, such as the fastest time on the Poggio during Milan-San Remo and the Tour of Flanders. “It’s impossible to do better than that. A 1-2 in Roubaix may never happen again, so we have to make the most of it. I ran my best classics campaign ever. This is the last race of my campaign and to finish like this is a dream,” said Mathieu Van Der Poel.
