Last monday (03), through interviews, cyclists reported on the launch of the documentary series “Unchained”, which addressed the preparation and competition of the Tour de France. However, the work divided the athletes’ opinions between being satisfied or dissatisfied with the approach taken.
Tom Pidcock of the Ineos Grenadiers team reported that he was pleased with the development of the series and that he was thrilled to watch: “I think it’s okay. It’s a very difficult thing to get right, isn’t it? You have to appeal to the general public who don’t understand cycling and to people who ride bicycles”.

However, as we already mentioned at the Miami Cycling Show, other cyclists did not like how the documentary episodes were developed. Jasper Philipsen, from the Alpecin Deceuninck team, was nicknamed “Jasper The Disaster”, casting the cyclist as a clumsy and forgotten character. Upon learning of this, the team director and the athlete took a stand against the approach to the work.

Between the episodes, the work also approached the friendship of Wout van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard in a negative and appealing way and both did not like the positioning. However, in a statement, they stated that they understand that, sometimes, it is necessary to create these narratives for the series to engage and confirmed that there is no misunderstanding between the athletes.
