Last Sunday (02), in accordance with one of the regulations of the UCI, the governing body of the sport, responsible for the Tour de France and several matches, the teams that are participating in the competition will have to reduce by half the amount of carbon emissions until the year 2027. If the measure is reached, the teams will have the opportunity to participate in bigger disputes in cycling.

“It will be mandatory for them to be carbon neutral in 2030, with the aim of reducing their emissions by 50% in 2027 compared to 2019. After 2027, it will be mandatory to even get a license on WorldTour. I have the 2030 agenda in front of me and the objectives are the same for the UCI and for the stakeholders: we have to reduce by 50% by 2027 and reach zero by 2030. This will be certified by independent experts”, said David Lappartient, president from the UCI.

The businessman also explained how important the reduction is for the sport, also placing cycling as a way to build significant actions. Furthermore, he commented that some teams were not completely satisfied with the measure. “As we speak today, some of them are on board, some of them are more coherent, but we really want to share the same vision. That’s why at the last WorldTour seminar, we had a presentation on this to get everyone on board to say, reducing emissions,” he reported.
