“It was a very good year and also a very difficult one. This title means a lot to me, it’s a dream come true to wear the rainbow shirt. It’s like a dream come true and I hope to enjoy the rainbow jersey next year. I thought that after these two world titles on the track, it would be almost impossible to win again on Sunday”, said the cyclist about the victory.

Previously, the last competitions that Lotte Kopecky competed in and ended up securing the first position on the podium were the Tour of Flanders and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, both took place at the beginning of the year in France and Belgium. The matches, in addition to winning the Elite Women’s Championship, made the cyclist win the title that had not been won since 1973, becoming the first Belgian woman to win the gold medal.

“I knew I was the favorite before the race, but I can’t change anything about that. Then I can start to get stressed and that can send me into a downward spiral or something. But yes, it is like that, it is not something that is the first time this year and the more you get into these situations, the better you can handle them”, explained the cyclist about favoritism.

Lotte Kopecky also commented that when starting the race she was very nervous due to the presence of the competitors and the way back, that there were pranks and needed more attention from the athlete, and that at the end of the match she was exhausted due to the long climbs.
