Los Angeles Lakers announce tribute to Kobe Bryant

Last Thursday (31), through social networks and official websites, Los Angeles Lakers and Vanessa Bryant announced that they held a tribute to the memory of Kobe Bryant with a statue of the player. For the celebration, a ceremony will be held on February 8, 2024, in front of the Crypto.com Arena.

“Kobe played for the Lakers for 20 years. Ever since he arrived in town, he’s felt right at home. On behalf of myself, my daughters, and the Lakers, I am honored to announce that we will be unveiling, right in downtown Los Angeles, in front of what is known as ‘the house that Kobe built’, a statue for his legacy will forever be celebrated,” Vanessa Bryant said in a video statement.

The businesswoman continued: “Kobe’s transcendental spirit will always be in our hearts, inspiring us every day. And now, with the unveiling of this beautiful and powerful statue, we will have his physical presence as well. A place in the hallowed ground that Kobe created where we can come together and honor this incredible man.”

The dates for his tribute were chosen according to the numbers used by the player throughout his career, 08 and 24. The celebration of his memory will join the former athletes who made history in the NBA such as Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jerry West and Chick Hearn.

In early 2020, a helicopter crash was announced in which Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna Bryant and more than eight people were. The incident happened around the city of Calabasas, California – United States, when the player was on his way to a game in which his daughter’s team would participate.
