The competition was held in the city of Sparks, Maryland, and because it is a one-day match, it is considered the professional road race in the United States that has a high level of competitors. The route passed through irregular places between the north of Pennsylvania, the south towards Baltimore until arriving at the final point in Inner Harbor.

In the middle to the end of the match, cyclists Toms Skujins and Mattias Skjelmose of Lidl-Trek, Chris Harper and Lucas Hamilton of Team Jayco AIUIa, Hugo Houle of Israel Premier-Tech and Neilson Powless of EF Education-EasyPost , remained faithful to the path even under a strong sun and heat.

“I’m really happy. This race is very important for the Lidl-Trek team and to win here and to show great teamwork is very important for us and to win this race is very special. Toms was super strong. I was strong. I think we both could have won. Toms had a good attack and I was just waiting for my moment to attack”, said Mattias Skjelmose after finishing the race.

Neilson Powless also commented on the competition, saying it was a tougher day: “It turned out to be a very aggressive and difficult race day in Baltimore. Something about this course makes the race very selective. And I think it’s probably the heat and mountainous terrain of the countryside. But when we got to the end it was just a slug party”.
