However, the athletes took the competition as a way to show their strength and determination to dedicate the victory to their cyclist and teammate. “This morning we received some horrible news and I think it affected everyone on the team. He is my best friend and I wanted so much to win for him, to dedicate the victory to him. Yes, it is an emotional victory”, said Jonas Vingegaard.
The cyclist reported how Jumbo-Visma managed to balance emotions during the stage: “The team did an incredible job today, at break time the guys were controlling it very well and then I went ahead. The team gave the three of us the opportunity to try. I went at a good time.”
Previously, in an interview during the competition’s rest day, Jonas Vingegaard stated that his performance in the first week of the Vuelta a Espana would have been hampered due to serious stomach problems. In a report, the athlete declares that he was better and ready for the next phases.
