Jonas Vingegaard wins stage 16 of Vuelta a Espana

This Tuesday (12), Jonas Vingegaard won the stage 16 of Vuelta a Espana, and moved to second in the overall standings. The competition is in its final week, and stage 16 was a 120.5km race between Liencres Playa and Bejes.

Vingegaard burst away from the rest with under four kilometers left, and won by 43 seconds from Finn Fisher-Black, second-placed. Wout Poels finished third, six seconds behind. His teammate Sepp Kuss struggled in the final stages and was one minute and five seconds behind.

Now, Vingegaard moved 29 seconds behind the race leader, Kuss, with just five stages to go. In third comes Slovenian Primoz Roglic, followed by Spaniards Juan Ayuso and Enric Mas completing the top 5. 

The next stage will be this Wednesday (13), a 124.5km mountain stage between Ribadesella/Ribeseya and Altu de L’Angliru.
