Zhou joined Sauber’s F1 team, currently called Alfa Romeo, in 2022, and became the first F1 driver from China. He will partner with Valtteri Bottas for the third straight season. The Chinese driver is 16th in the drivers’ championship, while Bottas is just two points ahead of him.

The choice for the seat was between Guanyu and the junior driver Théo Pourchaire, who is leading the F2 championship. Pourchaire will be the reserve driver for the team next year. Now, with Zhou’s confirmation, it leaves just three seats open on the F1 grid for next season, two at AlphaTauri and one at Williams.

AlphaTauri did not confirm either Daniel Ricciardo or Yuki Tsunoda, and now Liam Lawson entered the dispute for the seat, for doing well while replacing Ricciardo, who is out due to a broken hand. At Williams, Logan Sargeant’s poor performance and crashes is making the team reconsider his seat, and maybe looking for a replacement.
