When asked whether Ferrari had presented him with a contract, Hamilton told Blick newspaper: “Never. We had some informal conversations. I know a lot of good people there, but I never felt ready to move to Italy.” Following the agreement reached with the seven-time world champion, at least until the end of 2025, Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes, explained why negotiations between the two were “complex”.

Hamilton admitted it was not the first time he and Wolff had “disagreements” over details relating to certain clauses in their contract. “It’s not the first time we’ve discussed the details for hours,” commented Hamilton. “Always with the idea: from Thursday to Sunday, I belong exclusively to F1.”

“There are many details about my promotional activities. I am in a happy situation with Toto. He is respected and admired by everyone. He is easy to negotiate with, which makes him a great leader.” When asked if he read the details of the contract, Hamilton responded, “Of course, I want to know exactly what’s in there. But now it’s over 200 pages or a damn book. It takes days!”
