Mercedes Formula 1 team driver Lewis Hamilton has been candid about what it will take to secure second place in the drivers’ championship. Although Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen has already secured the season title, the battle for second place in the individual classification, currently occupied by Sergio Pérez, also from Red Bull Racing, remains open.

The Mercedes team veteran is in third place, with a 30-point gap over Checo. Hamilton highlighted that Pérez’s performance from now on will be crucial in determining the direction of the category in 2023. “I mean, it mainly depends on Checo’s performance from now on, as he should easily secure second place,” commented Hamilton, attributing responsibility to the Mexican pilot. “Of course I want to try to overcome and do more,” added the Mercedes driver. “Getting second place in the drivers’ championship would be incredible, but the main focus is really trying to get second place for the team.

The 2023 Formula 1 season will resume with the United States Grand Prix in Austin the week of October 22.
This Sunday, the 8th, Max Verstappen celebrated his third world championship by winning another race in the season, dominating from the first laps and taking victory in the Formula 1 Qatar GP. On the podium, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris also celebrated after the race this weekend, in a double for the McLaren team.
