“I deeply regret what has happened, especially because these are young players who are of great value to our football. Seeing these young people involved in this type of situation is truly unpleasant,” expressed Pirlo. “Today, I spoke to my players about this matter. I sincerely hope that we don’t have any more cases. It is crucial that we all stay alert. Our players have the best jobs in the world, and it is pointless to waste that privilege with such harmful situations.

They have everything they want – money, success, fame… Therefore, ruining their careers through these issues is extremely regrettable. We are very sorry about this, we are monitoring the situation and hope that it does not become something more serious”, emphasized the Sampdoria coach.

In the same week, three players were excluded from the Italian national team due to investigations into their involvement in illegal betting schemes. Among them are Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, Aston Villa’s Nicolo Zaniolo and Juventus’ Nicolo Fagioli. Tonali even showed emotion and committed to seeking psychological help to deal with her addiction.
