Attacking midfielder Neymar will have to undergo surgery. Thus, in a statement released on Wednesday (18), the Brazilian football confederation reported that the number 10 tore the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee.
Therefore, the minimum expected time to return to activity in injuries similar to this is six months. The wait may be longer and depends on the athlete’s recovery process.
Still, the date and location of the surgery have yet to be defined. Namely, the medical department of the Brazilian team and Al-Hilal, Neymar’s current team, are in permanent contact.
The Saudi club spoke out shortly after the statement released by the CBF. The team wished their number 10 a good recovery and stated that more details of the treatment will be released later.
It is the first time that Neymar has had a knee injury. Thus, if the recovery really takes six months, the striker would return to activity at the end of March 2024. The Copa América starts in June of next year.
It is worth remembering that Neymar left the Centenário stadium, in Montevideo, on crutches, after suffering a serious injury to his left knee. He suffered a sprain at the end of the first half of Brazil’s 2-0 defeat to Uruguay on Tuesday (17), he was substituted in the 48th minute. The number 10 left the field on a stretcher and was crying.
