Gabriel Jesus is close to returning from injury, says Arteta

Gabriel Jesus is close to returning to play for Arsenal. Due to a knee injury, the Brazilian striker has not played for the London club since the end of January, when they faced Nottingham Forest, in the 22nd round of the Premier League.

This Friday (23), in a press conference, Gunners coach Mikel Arteta updated the situation of the squad’s injured players and revealed that Ghanaian Thomas Partey and number 9 are close to returning.

“We have another session today and obviously he [Partey] has been out for many, many months and we need to really get the timing right and when he will have enough energy to compete, but I think he is very close. It’s the same with Gabi [Jesus] , he did some things,” said Arteta.

With this, Arteta can count on Partey and Jesus for Arsenal’s next match in the English Championship. This Saturday (24), the London club hosts Newcastle, at the Emirates Stadium. If they win, the Gunners could take second place in the Premier League.

It is worth remembering that Gabriel Jesus has not acted for 24 days. The number 9’s last game was one of the best performances of the season. Away from home, at the City Ground, the Brazilian scored a goal and provided an assist in the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

In the 33rd minute of the 2nd half, however, Jesus felt pain and was replaced. He has not played for Arsenal since.

In addition to Partey and Jesus, Arteta also said at a press conference that Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko is also close to returning to the pitch. The Japanese Tomiyasu needs “a little more time”, according to the commander.
