Spanish Public Ministry requests arrest of Ancelotti, Real Madrid coach

The Public Ministry of Spain requested this Wednesday (6) the arrest of Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti. The accusation is of fraud against the Treasury, with 1 million euros evaded in taxes. The request is for imprisonment for 4 years and nine months.

According to the indictment, Ancelotti concealed in his income statement the salaries corresponding to the exploitation of his image rights during the years 2014 and 2015.

With this, Ancelotti tried to avoid taxation by using a “confusing and complex” scheme of trusts and companies to channel the collection of his image rights. He would have simulated the transfer of rights to companies “without real activity”.

Furthermore, the accusations concern Ancelotti’s first spell at Real Madrid. He signed a contract with the Spanish club in July 2013. In this agreement, he transferred his image rights to the company Vapia Limited for a period of 10 years, at a price of 25 million euros.

A day later, the company appointed Ancelotti as its representative, granting him “maximum powers of action to manage his image rights”. Afterwards, an agreement was formalized that changed the duration of the agreement to three years and the value of the rights to 1 million euros.
