Gabriel Jesus reports struggle with injuries: “I don’t remember the last time I played without pain”

Starting just four of Arsenal’s 14 games this year, Gabriel Jesus is trying to get back on track with the team. But, before facing Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the Brazilian striker reported a drama he has been experiencing: the constant fight against injuries.

“I personally don’t like talking about my form. Well, last year, after the World Cup, I had a knee injury. I recovered well, but I had a relapse in the pre-season and had to have another small surgery . I came back and played three games in the 90 minutes, but then I suffered another injury. In training, I took a knock. People don’t know that.”

“I just try to stay fit and help Arsenal as much as possible. But unfortunately, I’ve been having some problems this season and I hope that next season, I won’t,” said Jesus.

It’s worth remembering that Gabriel had a serious knee injury during the World Cup. The Brazilian confesses that he doesn’t remember the last time he was in top physical shape.

“I don’t remember the last time I played football without pain,” Jesus said.

“I can’t complain. I just try to recover as best I can and be ready for the next game. I try to stay mentally strong and try to help the team.”

In the last two games as a starter, the number 9 played as a winger on the left. He makes no secret of the fact that he prefers to act centrally. But, given the lack of chances and the great competition in Arsenal’s attack, Jesus is willing to play wherever Mikel Arteta wants.

“I don’t want to come here and say that Gabi doesn’t mind playing as a winger when his position is normally nine. At this part of the season, you don’t complain. I never complain. I just want to work.”

“For this part of the season, I’m going to put my ego aside and just help in the best way possible and do whatever the coach wants to help the team in the best way,” he said.

Jesus has eight goals and five assists in 28 appearances for Arsenal in 2023/24. Competition was fierce in attack, with players like Kai Havertz and Trossard performing well. The Brazilian says he doesn’t mind the comparisons, but admits that he demands it.

Jesus scored four of his eight goals this season in the Champions League. This Tuesday, Arsenal will host Bayern Munich in London, in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
